Are your photo captions holding you back from more bookings at your Airbnb?

If you already own a vacation rental, have it listed on a vacation rental listing platform (hopefully it’s at least on one of the big 3), then you must know all about captions. The thing is you may have overlooked them. You may have added simple words - like "Kitchen." You can do better!

Now, you may be saying, “Beth, I have less than 100 characters to use for my captions. How on earth do you come up with a good caption so small?”

I know. I know. I know. I’ve been in your shoes and to this day, it can sometimes be a challenge.

It’s a skill that takes much practice. It may take years and years to perfect it without any guidance. But that’s why I am here. I am here to help you. I am here to minimize your struggles because once struggles hit and build up, fear sets in. And I don’t want you to fear this process.

The process of owning a vacation rental is fun and exciting, especially when you start seeing your income increase. Likewise, I want to put you on the fast track to success so you can start living your best life sooner than I did.

So, let’s get to it.

Right now, I want you to go to your listings and check your captions.

While doing this, here are some questions to ask yourself:

  1. Is each caption for each photo written?
  2. Am I utilizing all or at least most of the characters? You gotta get creative here.
  3. Does my caption explain what the photo is? Are your guests looking at the master bathroom or the guest bathroom?
  4. Am I using power words? Words that sell
  5. Do my captions describe the less obvious things my guests should know that they might not know by just looking at the photo? For example, is it a Queen size bed? Is it a pullout couch? Is the kitchen stocked with cooking supplies?

Answering these questions and incorporating these points into your listings captions can undoubtedly increase your online views, which, in turn, can increase bookings.

Here’s why:

  • SEO - This is a  fancy term that in this instance means "Making Google Like my Listing"
  • Each caption is an opportunity to sell - Swoon a but as you write your caption, make them a part of the picture.

I often times write my captions as if I’m giving my guests a video tour. You wouldn't just say, "Bathroom." You would say, "The soaking tub in this bathroom is the perfect experience to end the day with a glass of wine and a good book."

I hope this has helped you and motivated you to get on perfecting your captions to win Google and your guests over. ;) You can always go back and tweak your captions, but you have to start somewhere. If you take this and go through each of your captions asking yourself those five questions each time, and writing in missing information, I am certain you will see a boost.
